Starting school
Your child can start Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn five on or before 31 July in that year. By law, all children must be enrolled in school by their sixth birthday.
Because students start new work in their new class at the beginning of the school year, it would be an advantage for your child both socially and educationally, to start school as soon as possible in the new year.
How can I enrol my child at Les Powell School?
You cannot enrol your child directly into a SSP but your local school can help you with this process.
The school will work with you to determine if your child is eligible and if this type of support will meet their needs.
This option is available when:
- Your child has significant support needs and meets the department's disability criteria.
- This type of support will meet their needs.
- An application is completed in consultation with you. This is usually arranged by the learning and support team at the school your child is enrolled in.
- A local support class panel considers it and makes a recommendation.
This application is called an ‘access request’.
For more information about new enrolments please contact 02 9203 9900.
Temporary Residents applying to enrol school
If your child has a temporary visa or visitor visa you will first need to apply to enrol by contacting the temporary residents program.
